Manchester United is considering Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap as a potential signing for the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Laurie Whitwell from The Athletic, Delap has emerged as a more plausible target compared to Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, whose age and price tag make him less appealing to INEOS.
Delap, 22, has been under scrutiny by Manchester United this season. His performances have caught the attention of technical director Jason Wilcox, who previously worked with him at Manchester City. As Amorim looks to strengthen his frontline after this season, discussions about Delap are expected to intensify.
Ipswich is aware of growing interest in their young forward and would likely demand a significant fee if they manage to stay in the Premier League. However, if they face relegation back to the Championship, his price could decrease—potentially making him more accessible for United.
Chelsea also holds strong interest in signing Delap this summer and could pose stiff competition for his signature. Despite being praised as ‘exceptional’ by Glenn Murray, he isn’t necessarily United’s top priority yet; their pursuit of Gyokeres remains challenging due to various factors including European qualification chances.
Fabrizio Romano notes that securing Gyokeres depends on several factors such as qualifying for Europe next season—a goal complicated by their current 12th position in the Premier League.
