Hopefully no black cats dashed across Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s path on his way out of the London Stadium on October 29 as Everton’s number nine has seemingly lucked out when it comes to scoring after his effort at West Ham United ensured he became just the fourth player to net 50 Premier League goals for the club.
The once promising striker’s post-Halloween drought has unfortunately dragged on with his hopes of getting another goalscoring run going has somehow not materialised. However, for what it was worth, he got a header from a yard out that appeared close enough but even that was later credited to Jack Harrison.
Bad luck knocked again on the door of Calvert-Lewin, who also had a goal taken off him in the reverse fixture at Spurs after VAR revealed a very charitable ‘foul’ from Andre Gomes on Emerson Royal in the build-up but as frustrating as this run must be for the Blues striker, he somehow has to shrug off the technicality of having this latest effort snatched from him in the record books.
Calvert-Lewin’s barren streak has now reached a 17th game, which is admittedly a significant number considered that’s the same total number of Premier League matches that he played in both of the previous two injury-hit campaigns.
All the same, optimistically both player and manager alike should take encouragement that he’s now able to be out there for his team on a weekly basis again as thee’s still much to look forward to.
