Thomas Frank the latest rumored contender for Chelsea

Brenfford head coach Thomas Frank is reportedly the latest contender favored to take over at Chelsea if Graham Potter is given the sack despite news saying to the contrary.

Despite the Blues’ hierarchy seemingly sticking to their resolve to stick by Potter despite their side’s horrendous run of form seeing them win only three of their last 17 matches in all tournaments, as Chelsea’s American co-owner Todd Boehly seems to have committed the Blues to a long-term project when he hired Potter to take over from Thomas Tuchel and awarded the former Brighton manager a contract until 2027,  calls for Potter to be sacked are becoming incessant by each additional match that they lose, especially since Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, which leaves Chelsea fighting for a top-half finish as they are sprawled a dismal 10th in the table.

Potter as yet is still thought to be relatively safe from losing his job, but results against Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund in his next two games could prove pivotal to his future in the Blues hotseat.

News has energed that should the Chelsea board feel it is indeed expedient and timely to pull the trigger, Football Insider claims that the Brentford head coach Frank has caught the eyes of the powers-that-be in the Blues’ hierarchy following his remarkable feats with Brentford.

The 49-year-old creditably led his side to the Premier League for the first time in 2021 after having joined them in October 2018, and he engineered a 2-0 success over Arsenal in their first-ever game in the competition.

Credit is due to Frank for helping to establish Brentford as a fully-fledged Premier League side, leading the capital club to a 13th-placed finish in the 2021-22 season where they are now the outside contenders for a European spot this campaign  – sitting ninth and just one point worse off than seventh-placed Liverpool.

The report also mentions that the Chelsea board are impressed Frank’s numerous qualities, primarily his style of play and his ability to develop young players into Premier League-level performers.

Then there is also the Dane’s relationship with the press, which is supposedly another factor that works in his favor, which makes him close to the top of the Chelsea list of replacements should push come to shove anytime soon should Potter be axed.

Frank’s record showcases 99 wins, 50 draws and 68 defeats from his 217 games in charge of Brentford, who have the former Brondby head coach under contract until 2027 too.

While Boehly is still obdurately clinging to his guns and determined to give Potter time to put his long-term plan into action, other members of the Chelsea hierarchy are rumored to not share his optimism that their form will improve under the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion manager.
