Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema score braces as Portugal draw 2-2 with France

As La Roja enjoyed their Wednesday evening basking in the glory of the massive 5-0 victory over Slovakia at La Cartuja in Seville, two of their major rivals for Euro 2020 duked it out at the Puskas Arena in Budapest immediately afterwards, with juggernauts France and Portugal drawing 2-2.

Cristiano Ronaldo, formerly of Real Madrid, got the proceedings going with his first goal in the 31st minute, only for Karim Benzema, the currently Los Blancos ace striker, to equalize on the stroke of half-time. Benzema subsequently followed that up with another gem to put France in the lead just after the restart, only for Cristiano to retaliate on the hour to level the final score at 2-2.

As it stands, Germany drew 2-2 with Hungary in the other game in Group F finishing the group phase second with four points while France finished top of the table with five points. Portugal finished third with four, losing out to Germany on the head-to-head. Hungary finished bottom with just two points.

All in, it was a thrilling game reflecting the best of international football. Portugal will face Belgium next at La Cartuja in the last 16 on Sunday evening, while France will play Switzerland at the National Arena in Bucharest.
