Manchester United boss has most likely offended some of the Italian club’s fans with a recent throwaway comment as some AS Roma fans have stuck posters of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer up outside the club’s training ground after feeling disrespected by the Manchester United manager.
The Italian club travel to Old Trafford for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final tie against the Red Devils on Thursday. And some Roma supporters have responded to comments the Norwegian made in the immediate aftermath of drawing the Serie A club.
Solskjaer was quizzed about his side’s next opponents in his post-match BT Sport interview after vanquishing Granada 2-0, to which he responded:
“I don’t know them and I haven’t seen them play.”
He then proceeded to say the match would be a big European tie, given Roma are a club with a lot of history.
Some Roma fans took offence and retaliated by plastering posters of Solskjaer outside the club’s training ground which read:
“I don’t know them and I haven’t seen them play,” followed by the comment ‘make sure he remembers us’”, underneath.
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has named former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko as one of Roma’s danger men in the tie.
He said:
“Roma defend well, as Italians always do of course. They’re an experienced team and we all know Edin Dzeko, so any ball in the box is a dangerous one.
“We’re looking forward to it, of course. We’re in a semi-final now and it feels like a proper European tie, because Roma is a club with loads of tradition and history, but we’ve done well against Italian teams before.
“We’re looking forward to it and we’re going into these games hoping to get to the final. If you can finish this season with a final and a trophy then that would be great.”
