Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have both weighed in on the discussion on Son Heung-min, who has been named in the duo’s Premier League Team of the Year
Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane, Tottenham’s dynamic duo, are both recognized for their scintillating start to the season which has seen them combine to score 20 of Tottenham’s 25 goals thus far. In addition, England skipper Kane has proven he’s more than just a goalscorer by weighing in with 10 assists – the most across the entire division.
However, it is the South Korea international who is actually Spurs’ leading scorer in the Premier League with 11 to his name and Neville has been enthusing about the forward.
Selected ahead of Liverpool’s Sadio Mane for a spot on the left-wing, Neville has paid Son the ultimate compliment by claiming every club in the world would want to sign him.
“You cannot criticise Son or Mane, they’re both absolutely world class,” Neville said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football show. “Every club in the world would want Son or Mane playing for them.
“Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, Liverpool, every club in the world would want those two players.
“Plug the stats for goals and assists in, Son has just done better in a team that isn’t as good as Liverpool but it’s no reflection on Mane, he has been brilliant.”
And Carragher was in full agreement with his Sky Sports colleague.
“I think that position, left-sided attacker, is the strongest position in the league in some ways, with the best players,” he added.
“You’ve got Mane and Sterling, the past two and three years among the best in the world, Hazard has just dropped off at Real Madrid, Neymar is obviously a top player, but I think Rashford and Son have jumped up now.
“Son this season has just edged the others but they are four world-class players.
“We’ve got the best in the world in that position.”
It is also interesting to note that Son and Kane are the only London representatives in the Sky Sports pundits Team of the Year.
The Spurs duo are joined by Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in what would be a devastasting attacking trio, while the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne also make the team.
Neville and Carragher’s TOTY: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Coady, Van Dijk, Robertson; De Bruyne, Henderson, Bruno Fernandes; Salah, Son, Kane.
