[VIDEO] Julian Brandt, the unsung hero for Dortmund, but underrated by fans

When it comes to Borussia Dortmund, people will definitely think of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho and even Erling Haaland. But not Julian Brandt. It is unfair considering how vital he is to Dortmund this season.

The brilliance of Haaland, Thorgan Hazard and Raphael Guerreiro in a Revierderby against Schalke last week cannot hide the fact that Brandt was the one that make it possible to win the game.

His passing, vision and work-rate channeled into Dortmund which functioning well as a team.

The most surprising thing is, Brandt has just joined Dortmund this season, and only 24 years old.

He used to play as a winger for Bayer Leverkusen. Now, he is an attacking midfielder for Dortmund. It’s a transformation that benefited Brandt and the team as a whole.

“In the end I am the last person to be complaining about this because it is always down to how you interpret the position,” Brandt said.

If you have someone like Thomas Delaney, who is strong on the defensive side, next to you, then you can take certain liberties in terms of how far forward you can go. However, the centre is my favourite.”

As Bundesliga finally returned, Brandt admitted that it’s difficult to regain form after a long break.

He has played 34 games and scored 7 goals in all competitions this season.

“As a club, with only nine games left and only being a few points behind first place, then we will have to try and get past them with all our might.

“It is difficult to look at the league table and make assumptions because
there has been such a long break and the circumstances have completely changed. Typically I would look at this as if we all start with no points and have nine games ahead ”

Dortmund currently have 54 points, four points behind league leaders Bayern Munich which have 58 points.

They can only hope their rivals dropping points before the season ends.

“In the end it depends on how strong we are mentally. We have already seen how much quality the team has.

“I do not know how you would deal with this kind of situation, this is the real question. Who is ready to take everything on? Those who are will be the ones who have the most points at the end. To win the League like this would be unique.”
