As all football league around the world are suspended due to coronavirus, the DFL – Deutsch Fußball Liga took this opportunity to organize the “Bundesliga Home Challenge”.
Twenty-six clubs from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 will take part in the eFootball tournament, which starts on 28 March.
The games will be played on EA SPORTS’ FIFA 20 video game.
The teams each will have two players, with at least one professional footballer from each club demonstrating their gaming skills. The second person in a team comes from the corresponding club or its surroundings.
The games are played on the PlayStation 4 and in online mode, so that participants invariably play from home.
The so-called “85 mode” guarantees that all teams have a matching skill level of 85, giving them a similar chance of victory.
A game lasts around 25 minutes, and two games are played individually.
The “Bundesliga Home Challenge” is not included in any official sports rating ever since the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL), an eFootball competition organised by the DFL since 2012, has been paused for now.
The VBL Grand Final, originally planned for the coming weekend, postponed due to the current spread of the coronavirus.
If you would like to follow proceedings live, the stream starts on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 March at 3.30pm local time on the Official YouTube channel of the Virtual Bundesliga.
