Former Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre casts doubt whether Lionel Messi will renew his contract any time soon.
The 32-year-old Argentinian current contract is set to expire in June 2021, but Messi have a clause that could allow him to leave at the end of every season.
“I have no idea whether he’ll renew,” Mestre told Cope and Radio MARCA.
“His father is negotiating the renewal. I always respect contact with the players. I only intervened when it was the moment to talk.”
Mestre also revealed Messi specifically asked Barcelona to sign Neymar last season.
“Messi directly asked Josep Maria Bartomeu for the return of Neymar, but he didn’t put pressure on him.
Mestre left his position on the Barcelona board six months ago, citing health as reason for departure.
“I left on good terms with Bartomeu, I didn’t leave on bad terms with anyone.
“I left because I wasn’t well, before I made enemies, I stepped down.
“I don’t have to be in situations that make me uncomfortable. Barcelona will keep being the great club that they are.”
But why Messi desperately asking Bartomeu to sign Neymar? Is he looking to leave very soon so Neymar can take his place next season?
Very fishy.
