Ansu Fati speaks about Barcelona future as Tottenham and Chelsea eye transfer

Barcelona’s one-time wonderkid Ansu Fati could leave Barcelona before the summer transfer window closes with keen interest from Chelsea and Tottenham in signing the 20-year-old.

With rumors rapidly developing, Fati has had to address speculation over his future at the Camp Nou this summer after the talented 20-year-old broke through to the Barca first team from the La Masia academy at the age of 16. The promising Spaniard has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea within the last 12 months after having slipped down the pecking order under Xavi Hernandez.

Despite having to further reduce their wage bill, Barcelona are still looking to sign Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix before the transfer window closes. To facilitate this, the LaLiga club has no options but to first dispose of some players like Fati, Raphinha and Ferran Torres before they can acquire new players.

Allegedly Spurs are now in contact with Barcelona as they look to sign Fati on loan, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano: “Tottenham are now in contact with Barca to negotiate for Ansu Fati deal on loan until June 2024.

“Discussions about conditions of the deal but Barca want 100% of the salary covered. Chelsea also presented the opportunity, but no former approach yet.”

However, in addressing the issue while speaking from the L’Antiga Fabrica Damm in Barcelona earlier this year, Fati confirmed he doesn’t wish to leave the Camp Nou. “I have a contract until 2027 and hopefully I can spend even more years here,” he said.

“I want to spend many years at Barca,” he added.

Having played just 47 minutes of football so far this season and benched for the major part so far under Xavi, the opportunity to play regular Premier League football could appeal to the Spaniard and trigger a change in the transfer situation – with perhaps a loan deal looking more likely than a permanent exit from Barcelona.
