Thai League side Bangkok United have signed Brazilian striker Brenner Marlos ahead of the upcoming 2020 campaign. This move came as a surprise addition to their foreign quota just nine days before the start of the new season.
Bangkok United announced yesterday that they had signed the 25-year-old Brazilian striker, who joins the club from Brazilian Serie A side Internacional.
His arrival has sparked rumors that the club’s top scorer last season, Nelson Bonilla, could be on his way out of the club. A departure of one of the side’s foreign players is necessary to make room for Brenner on in their quota, and a like-for-like change would make the most sense with the rest of the squad in balance.
Brenner seems a capable signing given his record, having made 57 appearances in the Brazilian top flight. He spent his most recent campaign on loan with Avai FC, also in Serie A at the time, where he made 14 appearances and scored twice.
The striker’s success could all come down to how well he can adapt to the new environment, playing outside his home country for the first time. He will likely be expected to make his debut for Bangkok United in their first league match, which is at home against Prachuap on Saturday, February 15th.
