Guangzhou Evergrande coach Fabio Cannavaro asks fans for patience

Guangzhou Evergrande coach Fabio Cannavaro is asking for patience from fans following the club’s unsatisfactory performance at Chinese Super League.

Shanghai SIPG stand top of the Chinese Super League (CSL) on goal difference from Shandong Luneng, with Beijing Guoan, Jiangsu Suning and Guangzhou Evergrande all lined up close behind them.

When this season turned out to be the most fiercely contested title race for defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande in recent memory, some fans expressed their fury in the 2-2 home draw with mid-table Hebei China Fortune on Saturday.

“We respect our supporters and are very thankful to them, but we also hope that they can be more understanding sometimes,” said Cannavaro, as quoted by AFP.

Cannavaro and his side have to face the uphill battle in the second leg of the 2018 AFC Champions League Last 16 against Tianjin Quanjian.

Evergrande earned a goalless draw in Tianjin in the first leg last week, which means only a victory could guarantee them a place in the next phase of the tournament.
