In an exclusive interview with Football Tribe Vietnam, midfielder Do Hung Dung (Hanoi FC) expressed his desire to represent Vietnam national team in the next three AFF Suzuki Cup tournaments.
Do Hung Dung has one of the unique playing styles among midfielders at V-League. He is not as technical as Nguyen Tuan Anh (Hoang Anh Gia Lai), does not have the ideal physique as Duy Manh (Hanoi FC), not talented as Luong Xuan Truong (Hoang Anh Gia Lai), however, he is notable for a passion for self-improvement and learning.
“Hung Dung is always passionate about learning. He always makes his greatest efforts and is eager to keep himself healthy. Not so many players can maintain a professional attitude and high focus like Hung Dung. He is one in a million who has the ability to endure and maintain the whole energy in every match,” Hanoi FC coach Chu Dinh Nghiem told about Hung Dung.
In the past seasons of 2016 and 2017 at V-League, Hung Dung played in all 52 matches for Hanoi FC. In this year’s tournament, the 25-year-old played the full 720 minutes, including six V-League and two National Cup games. Despite being the key players in the squad of title favorites Hanoi FC, Hung Dung has not been called to the national team.
“I always try to show the best on the field with the hopes of being called to the national team squad for upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup,” Hung Dung told Football Tribe Vietnam.
“I am over the age limit of the SEA Games men’s football competition. I am 25 years old. The career of the footballer is shot so I am aware that I have to take every opportunity to compete at the AFF Cup. I want to join the team, even if I have to sit on the bench.
“I understand that I will be put under massive pressure if I show my efforts. So I think I will try my best for my club Hanoi FC. If we gain some victories, national team coach Park Hang-seo may notice my strength and he will evaluate my potential contribution to the team.
When asked about the prospect of playing alongside marquee player Luong Xuan Truong in the national team, Hung Dung said: “Xuan Truong has both strengths and weaknesses. If I have a chance to play with him, I will try to develop myself to compensate for his shortcomings.”
In the interview with Football Tribe Vietnam, Hung Dung also shared his thoughts about his current club, Hanoi FC. He had not believed that he would have the chance to play regularly for Hanoi FC. However, when the opportunity approached, he caught it and now becomes the irreplaceable part of the team.
