Vietnam, Malaysia avoid Group of Death at 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup draw

Vietnam avoided the Group of Death at 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup following the draw in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.

The Golden Stars can feel at ease in this year’s AFF Suzuki Cup campaign after getting drawn in a relatively easier group that includes Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

In Group B, defending champions Thailand and runners-up Indonesia were squared off against each other, along with Philippines, Singapore and either Brunei Darussalam or Timor-Leste, who will face off in the qualifying playoff.

This year’s competition has been the newly-formatted version of the AFF Suzuki Cup.

In the group stage, five teams in the two groups will play two home and two away games, based on the draw conducting by AFF, before the knockout stages. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semifinals. The semifinals and final will remain two-legged, home and away.

The final four will play the two-legged semi-finals on December 1 and 5, or December 2 and 6. The final, also played home and away, will take place on December 11 and 15.
