German football official urges young Chinese players to play overseas

A German football official has urged young Chinese player to go overseas to develop the nation’s football.

Friedrich Curtius, general secretary of the German football association (DFB), was speaking in Beijing, where DFB announced NetEase as its official online media partner in China.

At the press conference, Curtius gave some advice on how to develop Chinese football in the long term.

“Chinese players should seize as many chances as possible to go and experience football in Europe and South America,” said Curtius, as quoted by

“The country should also make long-term plans for the development of the sport and stick with those plans..

“You will notice that a lot of players in the current German national team benefited from these camps and training programs, which can become a reference for China,” he added.
