Park Hang-seo: Vietnam U23 not far behind South Korea

Park Hang-seo, the newly-appointed head coach of Vietnam U-23 team admitted that his side would face a difficult task at 2018 AFC U-23 Championship next year.

Vietnam U-23 were drawn into Group D of strong contenders Australia and South Korea, which is the team headed by Park in 2002.

“Many people say that because I am Korean, I should understand my country’s U-23 football team, and that will be an advantage for Vietnam U-23. But that is not right, understanding the opponents does not mean we can beat them,” the 60-year-old said, as quoted by Vietnamnet.

“Actually before the draw, I did not think about facing Korea U-23. […] But the level of Vietnamese players is not far behind Korean counterparts,” he added.

The first task for Park is to coaching the national team at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Afghanistan on 14 November at My Dinh National Stadium.
