Kyle Walker’s contract talks cancelled

Reports that the Cityzens’ stalwart defender Kyle Walker’s contract talks have been cancelled over the last 24 hours have been making the rounds after released CCTV footage showed Walker apparently engaging in indecent exposure in a Manchester bar.

A report in The Sun on Tuesday night released details after a video included within the story revealed the tough City defender dropping his trousers in front of two women who he then proceeded to engage in conversation.

It appears that despite the City hierarchy not intending to either fine or suspend Walker for the infraction – preferring instead to consider it a private matter on a sanctioned day off for their first-team playing squad – it looks as though greater damage has been done to his Etihad career than it appears to be on the surface.

The latest updates from The Sun claim the Etihad’s officials have now cancelled talks with Kyle Walker over his contract extension despite suggestions that the 32 year-old was supposed to hold talks with officials on Wednesday in a bid to extend his Manchester City contract before the contract runs out in June 2024.

City officials allegedly cancelled the meeting with immediate effect, claims the report. Meanwhile The Sun also quotes an unnamed source who says that the defender “appeared more concerned that the investigation would derail a deal than the threat of court”.

The feeling has been prevalent in some quarters at the end of February that given the exit of Joao Cancelo, considering also Kyle Walker’s impressive physical longevity, City may be favorably-inclined towards prolonging his stay over the course of the coming weeks – with one report rating the chances of Kyle Walker being offered a new Manchester City contract as ‘likely’. The England star has always expressed he’s happy at the club, besides being a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s plans.

Although it’s still a bit to early to know what’s the true situation for the moment with initial talks over a new deal appearing like they may have been cancelled for now, it’s most likely that the chances of them being reopened at a later date are great as Walker is indeed a valuable cog in their defensive machinery.
