What’s that popular saying about walking softly but carrying a big stick again?
The FIFA international window has just arrived and all the teams in the international arena with vested interests are already limbering up in anticipation of their respective kick-offs. Likewise, various Paris Saint-Germain players are now already with their respective national teams, with one of them being midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The former Liverpool stalwart and Dutch national team supremo, who recently switched to the Parc des Princes club in a move just months before Lionel Messi’s epochal arrival at the Parisian capital club, voiced to a media outlet in the Netherlands about his eagerness to play alongside his new teammate, Lionel Messi.
In an interview with AD, the former Anfield midfielder stated that he’s eager to arrive back at PSG to play with Messi, as he missed the chance to do so during even the few minutes in the debut cameo appearance that the 34-year-old featured in for PSG against Stade de Reims last weekend.
“I only trained with Messi. When he came in last weekend, I was already out. We have so much quality, but the coach still has to turn it into a team. Messi is special. I immediately understood why Frenkie de Jong was so enthusiastic about the person Messi. He is so normal,” Wijnaldum said, which aptly summed up in the proverbial nutshell why the majority of even the world’s top-flight players have always been so taken aback when they actually have their first encounter with Messi with his totally unassuming simplicity and humility, where his demeanor actually borders on normalness, without even the faintest whiff of deceptive guiles or arrogance of any sort attached to him.
The diminutive Argentine of GOAT stature and humble Rosario origins, with his near-celestial skills and abilities on the pitch, has long been acknowledged as being ‘otherworldly’ by even his toughest rivals.
When the French giants resume their Ligue 1 schedule, they’ll welcome Clermont Foot 63 to the Parc des Princes on September 11th.
This will most likely be Messi’s first full start back at the Ligue 1 in France when he’s finished his latest stint abroad with Argentina playing in their World Cup qualifiers. Wijnaldum most assuredly wouldn’t be the only player on the PSG squad chomping agitatedly at the bit to play alongside Messi for a full 90 minutes and with his unbridled potency on the pitch.
It’s all systems go then with Paris Saint-Germain firing from all cylinders, hopefully. Let’s all hope that Mauricio Pochettino finally gets his act fully sorted out.
