Robert Lewandowski became the first foreign player to score 33 goals when he scored twice as Bayern beat Freiburg 3-1.
The 31-year-old beat Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s record who scored 31 goals in the 2016-17 season.
Only Gerd Mueller and Dieter Mueller have scored more goals in one season than Lewandowski in the history of Bundesliga.
That means the 31-year-old Polish has scored 48 goals so far in just 41 games in all competitions.
Lewandowski can still add up to 50 goals on the final matchday but is unlikely to match Gerd Mueller’s record of 40 goals in Bundesliga season set in 1972.
The Bundesliga champion will meet sixth-placed Wolfsburg on Saturday.
