Thomas Meunier has of late been heavily linked with an impending move to Borussia Dortmund with the German media reporting that this is nothing more than a mere formality. Several French parties have also confirmed that the two premier clubs are already at the stage of advanced talks to the extent of former PSG player Jerome Rothen even claiming on Sunday that Meunier had already signed a contract with the Black and Yellows.
Funke Sport also confirmed yesterday Dortmund’s interest in signing Meunier, albeit being a bit more cautious in adding that although the transfer is not seal-proof yet, the prospect of it happening are indeed very good.
Meunier joined PSG from Club Brugge in 2016 and is eager to leave PSG on a free transfer this summer with his purported arrival at Borussia Dortmund likely to signal the end of Achraf Hakimi’s tenure at the club as the latter’s two-year loan deal ends this summer. Hakimi is expected to return to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Lukasz Piszczek is also fast approaching the twilight of his career and it is yet to receive a new contract.
Meunier has been featuring regularly for PSG this season with a total of 27 appearances in all competitions and is equally adept at playing both as a right-back in a back four and as a wing-back in a back three. If he truly signs up with Borussia Dortmund this summer, Meunier will become one of three Belgian internationals at the club, joining Axel Witsel and Thorgan Hazard.
It most certainly looks like preparations for next season are well primed for Borussia Dortmund.
