One of the greatest goalkeeper of all time, Iker Casillas may retire in the near future to contest in Spanish FA presidential election.
According to Cadena Ser, the 38-year-old Porto goalkeeper will be the opponent of Luis Rubiales.
The radio station’s El Larguero programme also reported that Casillas has already told his decision to the Higher Sports Council.
His decision proved to be popular, as survey showed fans displaying their support for the goalkeeper with 94% of the votes in a hypothetical candidacy.
Reports also said Casillas has already held discussions with former Spain international teammates who may be interested in supporting his candidacy for the position.
The move is highly expected after Casillas fell ill during a training with Porto and was rushed to hospital before underwent a successful emergency surgery.
He returned and was seen training with Porto this season but did not appear in any competition.
In his overall career, Casillas has played over 700 games for Real Madrid and Porto.
Throughout his career, he won three Champions Leagues with Real and two European Championships and a World Cup in his 167 caps for Spain.
