Australia international Mustafa Amini stated that his national team’s failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup knockout stages would be seen “as a disaster for the nation”.
The Socceroos have landed in Group C for the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, Denmark and Peru. They will start their campaign against tournament fancies France on June 16, with group matches to follow against Denmark and Peru on 21st and 26th respectively.
“When the draw was first made the Danish players and public were very happy with their group,” said Amini, who is playing for Denish club Aarhus Gymnastikforening, as quoted by SBS The World Games on Friday.
“They pretty much said if they don’t get past the group it’s a disaster for the country.
“So it’s fair to say they’re feeling quite confident.
“They’ve got the likes of Christian Eriksen, whose one of the best players in the world, and a lot of players based in good European leagues.
“But us Aussies have a never-say-die attitude and in a football game anything can happen.”
