Former Vietnam NT headcoach Nguyen Huu Thang appointed as Ho Chi Minh City FC chairman

Former Vietnam national team coach Nguyen Huu Thang has replaced Le Cong Vinh as the acting chairman of Ho Chi Minh FC, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Thang will also take up the managing position of the Juventus and Barcelona youth academies in Vietnam, in which Ho Chi Minh FC has signed partnership deals.

The 45-year-old will be officially announced as the new chairman of the V-League club in June, along with the grand opening of Juventus and Barcelona academies in Vietnam.

Thang will take charge of the position that former captain of the Golden Star, Le Cong Vinh, had left after resigning as acting chairman of Ho Chi Minh FC.

Earlier this month, Vinh also announced that he was opening the CV9 Academy, an academy of Football for All in Ho Chi Minh city.

Thang left the coaching post of Vietnam national team following the defeat at the hands of Thailand, which saw the Young Golden Stars eliminated from 2017 SEA Games men’s football.

In April, he acquired the AFC Professional Coaching Diploma, also known as the AFC Pro-Diploma, which is the highest level of coaching accreditation issued by the Asian Football Confederation.

Under Thang’s guidance, Ho Chi Minh City will have to overcome the uphill battle at V-League, where they have gained just 9 points after 8 rounds.
