Vietnam U-22 head coach Nguyen Huu Thang has offered to resign following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Thailand, which saw the Young Golden Stars eliminated from 2017 SEA Games men’s football.
The former Vietnam national team captain announced his decision at a post-match conference following a result that saw his team knocked out in the group stage of this year’s SEA Games.
“I offer my sincere apology to the supporters, who have had so many expectations from us. I’m the team’s head coach, but I’ve failed to live up to the expectations, so I’ll offer to resign,” the coach said.
“This is not a hasty decision from me. We haven’t achieved what I thought we were capable of, and that’s not acceptable. I must take full responsibilities for this. I think this is the right decision for us. I hope there will be someone else to replace me who can help Vietnam football to develop further,” he added.
