Iran giants Esteghlal and Persepolis secure their spot in AFC Champions League play off

Iranian giants Esteghlal and Persepolis went through to the last 16 of AFC Champions League before the final round of group stage.

Previous season semi-finalists Persepolis took one point in away match against Uzbek side Nasaf Qarshi with a goalless draw and got through to the next round.

However, they need a home win against Qatari side Al-Sadd in next match to go through as table toppers.

Esteghlal also beat Qatari side Al-Rayyan 2-0 with the goals of Sever Djeparov and Vouria Ghafori (Penalty), thus seal their place in last 16.

Esteghlal have been in good form since the arrival of German manager Winfred Schafer and they could win the group even with a draw in next match against previous season finalist Al-Hilal.
