Melbourne Victory beaten by Shanghai SIPG in AFC Champions League

Melbourne Victory suffered its first loss of the AFC Champions League campaign after being beaten 4-1 by Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG on Tuesday.

SIPG took the lead in the 25th when Hulk converted from the penalty spot after Wu Lei’s pass hit the arm of Jason Geria in the area.

Wu then put himself on the scoresheet with a header from a Wang Shenchao’s pass five minutes before the halftime.

The hosts continued to dominate in the second half with a 25-yard strike from Oscar just less than a minute after the restart.

After Victory pulled one back with their penalty in the 67th, Oscar sealed a win for SIPG with a strike into the corner to make it 4-1.

This win kept SIPG on top of Group F with six points.

Meanwhile, in another Group F match, Ulsan Hyundai beat J-League champions Kawasaki Frontale 2-1.
