After a successful campaign in 2018 AFC U-23 Championship, Malaysia coach Ong Kim Swee has set a target of qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Kim Swee will now prepare the team for the Asian Games this year, which will be the early head start for the AFC U-23 Championship in 2019.
If the young Harimau can reach the last four at the 2019 tournament, they would be qualified for 2020 Tokyo.
“Even though we played well yesterday against South Korea, but I am not at all satisfied as we did not make it to the semi-finals,” the Malaysian tactician said after the Saturday match, as quoted by the New Straits Times.
“We can’t just stop here, personally my target is a qualification for the Olympic Games but with the condition that we get an early head start to prepare, and what we will have to do is become one of the top four teams at the 2020 AFC Under-23 Championship,” he added.
