V.League champions Quang Nam FC may not eligible to qualify for next year’s AFC Champions League as they are arguably failing to meet requirements set by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Under the regulation of AFC, all teams take part in a continental competition, including AFC Champions League and AFC Cup, have to compete in the required official national youth tournaments.
Quang Nam FC have participated in all competitions, except Vietnam’s U17 National Championship.
As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, director Nguyen Hup said that the club executive board had been working to fulfill the criteria set out in the regulations.
“We are asking the local government to support and sponsor for the club,” Hup told reporters on Tuesday.
This season, only five clubs in Vietnam, including Hanoi FC, SHB Da Nang, Quảng Ninh and FLC Thanh Hoa, can meet the requirements.
In case Quang Nam are disqualified, V.League runners-up Thanh Hoa will take their place.
