Le Huynh Duc to step down from SHB Da Nang coaching position

Former Vietnam international Le Huynh Duc stepped down from SHB Da Nang coaching position at the end of the 2017 season, according to reports from Zing.vn.

The decision was made by Duc in the team training sessions on Wednesday, just almost two weeks after Da Nang suffered from a disastrous defeat to Hai Phong in V.League on 4 November.

Before this year’s football season kicked off, Da Nang was listed as one of the strongest contenders for the V-League title. However, the injuries of many key players have stopped Duc and his side to achieve good results.

With two games left, Da Nang has fallen to the 9th position of 14-team V.League, with just 6 points ahead of the relegation zone.

In his playing career, Le Huynh Duc was a key player of the so-called golden generation of Viet Nam. He has won Vietnam Golden Ball award, which was given to the best player of the season, and the best striker of the year award three times.

After hanging up his boots, the 45-year-old began coaching with East Asian Bank football club, where he also worked as assistant manager. He continued this role with Da Nang until his promotion to head coach in 2008.

During his nine years as a coach in Da Nang, Duc grabbed two V.League titles – one in 2009 and one in 2012.
