Vietnam U-18 technical director Jurgen Gede were feeling shocked when his side suffered from early elimination from AFF U-18 Championship following a 2-1 defeat against Myanmar on Wednesday.
“I know not everyone in Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have expected the success of U-22 team at last month’s SEA Games and U-18 at this AFF Championship. It is so strange that I can’t understand. VFF needs to invest more on the youth football development,” Gede said, as quoted by The Thao & Van Hoa.
On the other hand, the German has not expressed his belief in the World Cup finals prospect for the Golden Stars.
“I’m afraid I won’t be able to see Vietnam at the World Cup in this lifetime. I’m trying to focus on the U-20 team, as well as the junior teams,” he gave a pessimistic view.
