5. Malaysia 1-0 South Korea (World Cup 1986 qualification)

It’s not like the way it used to be, but Malaysia and Korea had some good old clashes back in the 70’s and 80’s. The 1986 World Cup qualifier between the pair saw the Southeast Asian side rose to victory.

Just after halftime and in front of a vibrant crowd at the Merdeka Stadium, Dollah Salleh picked up the ball on the right, cut inside and then blasted it home from outside the area.

There was much to be said about Malaysia, who came close to advance to the second round by finishing second in Group 3A with 5 points from 4 matches, just 1 point behind South Korea. The East Asia side had the last laugh, however, and were the ones on the plane to Mexico
