Arsenal have been handed the slimmest chance of claiming Premier League glory this season, despite being the only team among the top three to pick up three points in the Premier League this weekend after their most recent 2-1 win over Brentford.
Mikel Arteta’s side climbed to the top of the table with goals from both Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, after which Manchester City and Liverpool subsequently playing out an enthralling 1-1 draw at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The match ended up as a huge boost for the Gunners with only ten games remaining, although one key statistic has since emerged to dampen Arsenal’s title hopes.
According to Opta, Arteta’s in-form challengers have only a slim 19% chance of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2003. Apparently the comparison in fixtures for Arsenal and both Manchester City and Liverpool favors the latter two contenders.
The Gunners still have to travel to City, Tottenham and Manchester United before the end of the campaign, with home games against Aston Villa, Arsenal and Everton also to come.
Anticipating the massive clash against Guardiola’s side shortly after the upcoming March international break, Arteta has indicated that his side will continue to take things just one step at a time.
“There’s a lot of qualities that you need to win that many games in this league in the manner that we’ve done it,” said the 41-year-old after Saturday’s clash with Brentford. “But it’s about being consistent, not being satisfied, and wanting to do more.”
