Having done a broad sweep and conquered the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga, could the Serie A be Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s next challenge?
Swapping Manchester City for Juventus would be the one singular attraction that might just lure Pep Guardiola to Italy as Guardiola was linked with Juve back in 2019, but finally decided to stay put at Manchester City and the Serie A giants appointed Maurizio Sarri.
Having won titles in Spain, Germany and England, eyeing a new challenge in another of Europe’s top leagues could well tickle the Spaniard’s funny bone as the Juventus job is one of the biggest around, and the great Catalan tactician touched on the subject of the Bianconeri at the ‘Dialogues on talent with Pep Guardiola’event in Italy, saying:
“Juventus? They never contacted me. The food is very good in Italy. Would I coach them? I really like Italy; I often come on holiday.”
The Turin club has been undergoing a disappointing few years as they have gone three seasons without claiming the Scudetto after nine straight Serie A triumphs.
Their seventh-placed finish last term was their worst since 2010/11 – and, having been due to play in the 2023/24 Europa Conference League, they were banned from European competition by UEFA for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
