Let’s cut to the chase – there’s no denying that the names on the Paris Saint-Germain attack are hardly apocryphal and will truly scare any opposing defense – once they begin to really gel well together as an integrated unit.
But, only for the moment, thankfully for their opponents in the new history of Europe’s latest galacticos, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé seem only to be alpha-male predators still getting used to hunting together as a formidable pack that will soon drive fear into all rival defenses in their path. After all, it’s only a matter of time at some point this season that the trio’s alchemy will kick in and the fireworks will fizzle and sizzle while the MNM trio will mesmerizingly razzle and dazzle.
Italy international and Juventus FC defender, Giorgio Chiellini, stated in an interview with L’Equipe that he wouldn’t want to mark anyone on PSG’s attack due to the dangerous players up front. The veteran defender likened the French giants formation to a squad straight out of a dream video game.
“Nobody (laughs)! I get as close as possible to the goal and there, in the box, maybe I can still save something! Sounds like a PlayStation team, really. And an unbeatable team too,” Chiellini said.
“If they find an amalgamation on and off the pitch, if they manage to put the interests of the team ahead of individual interests, they will be unbeatable. If they all sacrifice themselves together for the same goal, they cannot fail to win. But it’s never that easy, and the opponents will be over-motivated.”
With Mbappé having one year left on his contract, the Ligue 1 side are putting all their chips on the table in the fervent hope that their new triumvirate can lead them to their first UEFA Champions League trophy.
The three players are slated to be on the squad against Manchester City, and it would not be an exaggeration to say that the whole football world is waiting eagerly to see how they gel, or not, especially tonight against a top-flight opponent under one of the best ever, serial award-winning managers in the history of football.
