La Liga has entered its endgame and it looks like the death knell is imminent for Barcelona.
With only two La Liga fixtures remaining to be played out in the 2019/20 season, Barcelona are realistically expecting Real Madrid to emerge the La Liga title victors tonight after facing a rather resurgent Villarreal. As expected, it’s all the papers are talking about over in Catalonia this morning.
Suffice it to say that intriguingly, both have gone with the identical headline on their cover stories reading ‘Match ball’, a clear indication suggesting that this could indeed be the night the Los Blancos will lift the crown and right in front of their eternal rivals’ noses.
Although the Blaugrana still believe in a near impossible miracle and will battle tenaciously with grim determination to the very last second, Mundo Deportivo are claiming Barcelona expect Real to win the title before the day is done.
That said, the race for the Pichichi between Lionel Messi – who’s on 22 goals and Karim Benzema on 19 – is yet to be finished, this being the only thing the Catalans can deny their nemesis in the La Liga campaign if the title were end up with Los Blancos.
Barcelona play their final La Liga game against Osasuna at Camp Nou whilst Real Madrid and their fans are eagerly awaiting their celebrations later on tonight.
But even though it’s unlikely the Los Blancos are to stumble right at the finish line tonight, Villarreal are a team on the ascension and are also looking for a place in Europe next season. This could potentially make them a rather dangerous opponent to face.
