Borussia Dortmund have stuck a £100m price tag on Jadon Sancho which has posed a bit of a dither to Man Utd to reconsider a transfer swoop in the summer involving the hotly-sought after winger.
Manchester United will now be biding their time in pursuit of Jadon Sancho as they play the waiting game hoping for Borussia Dortmund to lower their £100m asking price.
The English wunderkind has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford having previously played for City in his early teens.
Dortmund have a host of buyers lining up for Sancho but have not received any formal offers but the German side are clearly keen to maximise their profits having signed the 20-year-old for £10m.
Real Madrid and Chelsea are also understood to be interested in the forward, while City are also known to be considering a bid to bring him back to the Etihad.
This means United run the risk of losing out on a player whom they have monitored on their radar for sometime, reports the Daily Mail. However they are reluctant to smash their transfer record on a player, especially given the current financial climate.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already made it public that a realistic view needs to be taken insofar as recruitment is concerned as football emerges from the coronavirus pandemic. Regardless of the fact that United’s stature in world football means they are likely to be better off than most when it comes to finances, even they are cautious about spending mega-money on players.
In the foreseeable short term, Sancho could still remain with the Bundesliga outfit despite being left out of the squad for their win at RB Leipzig at the weekend.
Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc was quick to dismiss links between his absence and a potential departure claiming he was “fatigued”.
Meanwhile, United have also earmarked several other summer targets as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to rebuild his Old Trafford squad with English duo Jack Grealish and James Maddison both having been linked while Bayer Leverkusen stars Kai Havertz and Leon Bailey could be alternatives to Sancho.
