Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur are hosting the Red Devils in an eagerly-anticipated encounter on Friday evening as United are still looking to secure a top four finish. Meanwhile Spurs still have some work to do in order to qualify for the Europa League.
Friday’s clash adds more spice for Mourinho as there’s the added incentive of getting one up on the team who sacked him as manager not even midway through the 2018/19 season and replaced him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has done fine an earlier slew of negatives into positives so far.
Although the jury is still out deliberating on whether Solskjaer is United’s long-term answer, Mourinho himself seems unconvinced that the man who replaced him at Old Trafford is the one. According to The Athletic, he’s been telling people that Solskjaer might be out of his depth as Man United manager.
The last time two managers had met was earlier in the season with Solskjaer coming out on top as Man United sealed a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
Ironically it’s a case of the pot calling the kettle black as Mourinho himself doesn’t really have much of a leg to stand on in terms of league placings, having been unable to inspire Tottenham to a top four challenge and also to qualify for Europe. Besides, Spurs also aren’t in any cup competitions.
Mourinho’s snide remarks about Solskjaer are likely mind games stemming from a sour grapes disposition ahead of Friday’s juicy encounter both teams and their managers.
