The Premier League has agreed to give prize money earlier than usual to ease the cashflow of the clubs caused by the coronavirus crisis, The Times UK reports.
The report said all 20 clubs have reached an agreement last Friday to receive a percentage of ‘merit payments’ in advance, although it has not been disclosed how much each club will receive, with another payment will be made at the end of the season.
This is the money owed to clubs at the end of the season and will vary depending on their current league position.
The advance payment will assist clubs during a period of without income, including the absence of matchday revenue due to the league suspension.
Premier League clubs are expected to hold their next shareholders meeting later next week, after three conference calls in three weeks.
So far, they have been discussing about payments, as several clubs and players focusing the subject of staff furloughs, wage deferrals and possible pay cuts.
Yesterday, Premier League players have launched the #PlayersTogether to fund the NHS charities in a bid to fight COVID-19.
