Jadon Sancho’s decision regarding his future has not been made any easier by the enforced break in the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League, both of which have been calamitously and precariously put on hold, being held to ransom by the vicissitudes brought into play by the onslaught of the rapidly-encroaching coronavirus pandemic that has brought an enforced temporary shutdown on European football all across the continent.
Thankfully, however, his decision with regards to his choices has now been made a lot easier due to Borussia Dortmund’s exit from the Champions League last week having been bundled out of the competition by PSG inspired by a revitalised Neymar bent on revenge.
With the season now unceremoniously put on pause, Dortmund’s Champions League exit essentially means that there is now one less obstacle standing in between Sancho’s crossover to an eagerly-awaiting Manchester United. Although it is still highly possible that the competition could be resumed on the pitch in either May or even at a much later time depending on UEFA’s reaction to the coronavirus situation, it would then be more of a temptation for Sancho to stay back at Dortmund a little longer if only to complete his sojourn in the competition.
After all, despite all his efforts and dazzling goal-scoring feats at Dortmund, Sancho has yet to win a league title, domestic cup or Champions League trophy although he still stands a chance this season of winning the Bundesliga, although his side are four points adrift of Bayern Munich. The question mark that props up larger than life now is whether the Bundesliga season will be continued, and even if it does carry on, the incentive of staying on with Dortmund would definitely be considerably lessened now with Champions League adventure having come to a premature end.
At the same time, the situation augurs well for Sancho on Manchester United’s side of things as the club have lately found themselves in a good place with their 10-game unbeaten run with the brooding dark clouds over the Old Traffor skies having been cleared since the debacle of their Burnley defeat back in mid-January. A large part of the credit has to go to Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo, the new additions to the squad.
It is all up to Sancho now to decide if he’s desirous of a new challenge as Manchester United are certainly now in a much better position to provide it. There are still many considerations mitigating his final decision as he contemplates his future, but the taste of Dortmund’s loss to PSG at Chamions League level is likely to give him doubts regarding his current situation at the German club.
Not having to make preparations for Champions League football now, there’s nothing to stand in the way of Sancho entering into serious negotiations and head across to Old Trafford this summer.
