South Korea 2-0 Germany: 5 things we learned

3.Lack of finishing and quality forward haunted Germany

The expectation for Timo Werner at this competition was that it would propel him to stardom. He had been given the striker role for Germany after impressing in previous international games and for his club RB Leipzig.

Think of all the classic German strikers. Gerd Muller. Jurgen Klinsmann. Miroslav Klose.

Before this tournament, they thought they’d unearthed another in big, strong and brave Timo Werner. But it just hasn’t happened for the RB Leipzig striker, who has been tracked by all the Premier League giants.

In fact they had to turn to veteran Mario Gomez to try and turn the game round.

Despite all the promise and talk, yet it seemed that Werner was on a different radio-wave to the rest of his teammates as there was no cohesion.

Werner was given virtually no service and when he did get a chance, he often failed to hit the target.

Luckily for him, he can come back in four years and be better because of this experience. Either way, this has been a poor tournament for the 22-year-old.
