Portimonense SC has been given the green light to discuss a possible transfer for the 2019 Malaysia Football League MVP.
Safawi Rasid, 23, is hands down Malaysian’s football hottest prospect in recent years and it seems the electric left-footer will be making a move abroad as Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) have open talks with Portuguese Primeira Liga’s Portimonense SC.
“Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) would like to confirm that we have received an offer for Safawi Rasid from Portuguese Primeira Liga side Portimonense SC.” Sporting Director Martin Prest tweeted on the club’s official account.
“The club believes the offer is good for both JDT and Safawi, and thus we are willing to let Safawi further his career in Europe. We are unable to reveal details of the offer as final negotiations are still ongoing.”
3 Malaysia Super League titles in as many years with JDT, 2 seasons playing against Asia’s top club in the AFC Champions League and Safawi’s pivotal role in Malaysia’s national team run to the final of the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup is a solid proof of his quality and at his age, Safawi could grow even stronger if he could test himself in an established league such as the Primeira Liga. News of Safawi’s possible transfer is an excellent boost for Malaysian football who earlier in the month also saw 18 years old striker Luqman Hakim signed for Belgian club KV Kortrijk.
