Major Thai League club pulling out of Diogo Luis Santo transfer race

Regarded as one of, if not, the best foreign player to ever graced the Thai League, Diogo Luis Santo still continuously linked with a return to Thailand with big spenders Port FC and BG Pathum United rumoured to be leading the chase for the Brazilian’s signature.

The former Olympiacos striker left Buriram United for the Southern Tigers at the beginning of the 2019 season as the Malaysia Super League record signing. However, Diogo was rumoured with a surprise switch to Port FC in the mid-season transfer window that same year. Recently, Port FC has adopted a galacticos-like approach to recruitment thus Diogo’s name kept on reappearing.

Luckily for Johor Darul Ta’zim’s supporter, it looks like Port FC will NOT be asking for Diogo any time soon, according to chairwomen Nualphan Lamsam. Speaking to Thairath Sport, the former Thailand women’s national football team general manager quickly dismissed the speculation.

“Diogo is one footballer I’ve known for well since his visit to PAT Stadium. He is a quality player but I’m afraid we have to wait for now because he still has a contract with [JDT]. Plus, many clubs are interested in him.”

The Port Lions‘s chairwoman joking ends the topic with a not-so-fond memory of Diogo “I clearly remember when he wipes the floor with us on the final day of the season and got us relegated”

The game Madame Pang referred to is the 5-1 defeat in 2015 – Diogo scoring a brilliant second goal for The Thunder Castle as he was crowned the Thai League’s golden boot.
