Former England captain Terry Butcher has been appointed as head coach of the Philippines national team.
Butcher, who won 77 caps for his country and played in three World Cups, has not been in management since being sacked by Newport County in October 2015.
His new duty will be leading the Azkals, ranked 115th in the world, ahead of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
“Becoming a national team coach is the next step for me,” he told BBC Sport.
“I know what it takes to play for your country and want to impart that knowledge on my players.”
The Philippines qualified for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup for the first time under the previous manager Thomas Dooley, whose contract expired in March.
They have been drawn in the same group with China, South Korea, and Kyrgyzstan in the UAE tournament, which begins in January.
