Myanmar Football Federation appoints Antoine Hey as national team’s head coach

Two months ago, Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) had parted away with Gerd Zeise, who became the national team manager.

The decision was made because MFF felt that Zeise could not improve Myanmar’s performance when the team was fighting in 2019 Asian Cup Qualification. The team has failed to qualify for the Asian Cup under Zeise.

After a long way searching for Zeise replacement, last Friday MFF announced the new manager to the public through their website. Antoine Hey will fill the vacant job and just like Zeise, he is also from Germany.

MFF signed the German coach for one and half year. It means that he will be Myanmar national team manager until December 2019. 2018 AFF Cup will be his first competitive tournament.

“If there were no belief to succeed, I will not be accepted to do this work,” said him about his new job.

It is the first time for Hey to work in Asia. Hey started his career as a manager in 2003. Mostly, he got the experience from coached Africa’s team, such as teams in Lesotho, Gambia, Liberia, Kenya, and Rwanda. He also managed VfR Neumünster from Germany, US Monastir from Tunisia, dan Al-Merrikh from Sudan.
