“Messi Jay” Returns to Thai League with BGPU

Thailand star Chanathip Songkrasin has made a sensational return to the Thai League 1 after seven years in Japan by joining BG Pathum United in a signing made official on Wednesday.

29-year old Chanathip was a breakout star at Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo from 2017 to 2022, however injuries hampered his progress at Kawasaki Frontale, with “Messi Jay” only making 18 appearances and scoring zero goals in his two years with the four-time J.League 1 winners.

A move to BGPU would provide Chanathip with the escape route he needed to revitalize his career.

“BG Pathum United are delighted to announce that the club have reached an agreement for the transfer of Thailand international midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale,” said an official statement from BGPU.

Included in the J.League 1’s Team of the Season for 2018, Chanathip’s presence would hopefully galvanize a squad already stacked with talent such as Teerasil Dangda, Victor Cardozo, and Irfan Fandi as the Glass Rabbits seek to bounce back from a disappointing 2022/23 campaign by challenging for honors in 2023/24.
