France star Kylian Mbappe has ‘asked to leave’ PSG amid Liverpool transfer speculation

Liverpool are long-term admirers of French superstar Kylian Mbappe and could well be gunning for him, especially with the 22-year-old World Cup having reportedly told Paris Saint-Germain he wants to leave the club this summer, with his situation at PSG looking increasingly precarious.

Mbappe had all along been expected to sign an extension to his current contract which runs out in 2022, but new reports have now put that scenario in serious doubt. Instead, it now appears the Frenchman could possibly move on this summer, with Liverpool and Real Madrid still the frontrunners for the coveted signature of the former Monaco man who will cost north of £100million if PSG do decide to sell.

The thought of PSG selling Mbappe is almost zany but reports in France suggest he just isn’t keen on staying.

“I know that Mbappe asked to leave, but it is complicated because first you have to find a club that has the money to pay him, but the news is that he really does not want to stay,” RMC Sport’s Daniel Riolo said, via Marca.

“The player does not believe in Leonardo’s project. If he does not leave this summer, it will be for free next season. And in Doha [PSG’s owners] they do not want to hear about it.

“If Mbappe expresses this desire to leave, it means that he will have to find a club and that PSG will need to look for a replacement.

“But yes, the news is that Mbappe does not want to stay at PSG.”

Reports over Mbappe’s latest stand on his future will be welcome news to the ears of Jurgen Klopp and Real Madrid, although it remains to be seen whether both clubs can actually stump out the enormous amount of cash required to sign the Frenchman this summer – colossal transfer fee and wages included.
