Hanoi are back on top of the league after a 2-1 win over Binh Duong while Ho Chi Minh City suffered a shocking defeat against bottom club Sanna Khanh Hoa.

In the second match of a series of three consecutive matches against Binh Duong, Hanoi fielded some fringe players while Binh Duong also did the same.

This decision from both clubs meant that the match was not of the highest quality, especially with the torrid conditions of heavy rain due to the influence of storm Wipha.

An error from Binh Duong’s keeper gifted Quang Hai the opening goal before Van Quyet scored another. A consolation goal from skipper Anh Duc in the second half was not enough for the visitors and Hanoi achieved the full points.

That win was enough for the defending champions to go back to the top spot as Ho Chi Minh City recorded a shock loss against bottom club Sanna Khanh Hoa at home.

Chung Hae-song’s side took the lead thanks to the goal from Ismaheel but conceded right after that when midfielder Le Duy Thanh’s long-range shot leveled the match.

In the second half, Ho Chi Minh City attacked a lot and piled a lot of pressure on the visitors but in Khanh Hoa’s keeper Tuan Manh was the superb form, preventing them from finding the net for a second time,

When the host can not have the goal they needed, they conceded the another at final minutes of added time, thus suffering their first loss at home this season.

On the table, Hanoi now have 37 points when Ho Chi Minh City have 35 points with seven games left to play.

The other match that caught the eye this week was the clash at the Thien Truong stadium between Nam Dinh and Hoang Anh Gia Lai. 25,000 people went to the stadium to set up a new record for the league as the match had the highest attendance of the season. The match eventually ended with a 2-2 scoreline.
