Another Malaysia Super League campaign has drawn to a close, with Johor Darul Ta’zim being crowned champions. As the annual Malaysia Cup commences this weekend, we look back at the eleven players who made the biggest impression during the regular Super League season.

Goalkeeper

Name: Ifwat Akmal

Age: 22

Nationality: Malaysia

Club: Kedah FA

Ifwat managed to record six clean sheets, together with JDT goalkeeper Farizal. However, the reason Ifwat beats out his counterpart is that he put in good performances through this season and has proven that he will shine with Kedah and become one of the important goalkeepers for the national team.

Name: Maurício

Age: 30

Nationality: Brazil

Club: Johor Darul Ta'zim

Mauricio arrived at JDT in October last year. The former Lazio defender has proven himself to be a key player for JDT. Playing in the defense, he managed to help Farizal Marlias keep six clean sheets and manage to secure his club's sixth Super League title.

Center Back

Name: Taylor Reegan

Age: 30

Nationality: Australia

Club: Selangor FA

Taylor Reegan came in and help B Sathianathan cover his team's weaknesses in defense. His excellent performances caused problems for attacking players throughout the season.

Center Back

Name: La'Vere Corbin-Ong

Age: 28

Nationality: Malaysia

Club: Johor Darul Ta'zim

The English-born Malaysian has been a consistent player throughout out this season. He helped JDT secure their Super League title this season and has been called up for a Malaysian National Team.

Right Midfielder

Name: Mohamadou Sumareh

Age: 24

Nationality: Malaysia/Gambia

Club: Pahang FA

Sumareh has always been an important player for Pahang. His performance was crucial in helping Pahang to secure an impressive second place fnish in Super League.

Central Midfielder

Name: Haris Harun

Age: 27

Nationality: Singapore

Club: Johor Darul Ta'zim

Hariss is truly one of Singapore’s most successful players currently playing abroad. His time in the Malaysian Super League with Johor Darul Ta'zim has only continued to yield more silverware for the Singapore captain.

Central Midfielder

Name: Nor Azam Azih

Age: 24

Nationality: Malaysia

Club: Pahang FA

Nor Azam Azih is not an unfamiliar name in Malaysian football. Despite his age, Nor Azam has proven that he is an important player for Pahang.

Central Midfielder

Name: Nazmi Faiz

Age: 24

Nationality: Malaysia

Club: Johor Darul Ta'zim

The diminutive national team midfielder joined the Southern Tigers from Selangor in 2017. Success came promptly as JDT won the Super League that year, and have since retained the crown in 2018 and this year. His ability to remain calm and control the center of midfield with Harris Harun is a key point for their performance

Left Midfielder

Name: Gonzalo Cabrera

Age: 30

Nationality: Argentina

Club: Johor Darul Ta'zim

Gonzalo Cabrera has been an important player for JDT. Playing on the wing, he has shown the ability to penetrate through the opponent's defense. Most of JDT's goals this season have come from the wing movement that he has mastered.

Name: Kpah Sherman

Age: 27

Nationality: Liberia

Club: PKNS

Liberian player received a golden boot this season when he managed to score 14 goals for PKNS.

Name: Safawi Rasid

Age: 22

Nationality: Malaysia

Club: Johor Darul Ta'zim

Safawi Rasid finished the season as the top goalscorer among the local players. He always has something to show from his performance and ability. Reports from the local media before have stated that Safawi has been linked with a move to Thailand or Japan.
