Hanoi FC suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Thanh Hoa to continue their poor form in away matches during the 2019 season.

The defending champions conceded 3 goals in the first 40 minutes and played with 10 men for the majority of the second half as center-back Tran Dinh Trong was sent off for the foul against Rimario Gordon.

With the numerical disadvantage, Hanoi were unable to recover in this match and were forced to accept the devastating 1-4 loss. This result means that they have only won one of their five away matches this season.

Fortunately for the defending champions, Ho Chi Minh City failed to take their chance to extend their lead atop the V.League table, as they played out a 1-1 draw against Quang Nam. Matias Jadue scored the opening goal for the hosts, but shortly after, he failed to score from the blank goal to double their lead and effectively seal the match.

The league leaders would later regret that miss, as Quang Nam equalized from the spot thanks to Dinh Thanh Trung. With this weekend’s results, Ho Chi Minh City maintain their two points lead over Hanoi FC.

In the other match, Hoang Anh Gia Lai secured a 3-0 victory against Viettel with the double from Chevaughn Walsh and the goal of Vu Van Thanh.
