K League 1 resumed. A lot of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors’ players have not been given enough rest due to their participation in the 2018 World Cup. In addition, some of the team’s centre-backs such as Kim Min-jae and Lee Jae-seong have not recovered from injuries.
Jeonbuk’s Choi Kang-hee thus played their striker Kim Shin-wook a centre defender against Incheon United on July 7.
This decision turned out to be wrong, howevr; the 198cm-tall Jeonbuk player was involved in all three goals Jeonbuk conceded either directly or indriectly.
Kim apologised for his poor performance as one of four backs. “When coach [Choi] asks me to play as a defender, I just do it. I didn’t think of anything else. However, I was unstable and conceded a goal early in the match.
“We should have won this match, and I’m sorry. However, if there is another opportunity to play [as a defender], I will be more prepared. I follow his instruction no matter what it is.”
While Kim could not perform well as a defender, he did as a forward once Choi changed his position, scoring an equaliser in the stoppage time of the second half. Thanks to Kim’s goal, the match ended in a 3-3 draw.
